The European Conference on Cognitive Ergonomics
15 – 18 September 2026 Siena, Italy
Toward a New Sustainable and Peaceful Alliance Between Humanity and Technology
The European Conference on Cognitive Ergonomics (ECCE) is the flagship annual event of the European Association of Cognitive Ergonomics (EACE). It offers a leading forum where researchers, practitioners, and scholars come together to exchange perspectives, share advancements, and foster discussion on cognitive ergonomics and human–technology interaction.
In 2026, ECCE will take place in Siena, a historic and culturally vibrant city in the heart of Tuscany. Its strong humanistic heritage and dedication to knowledge, dialogue, and social wellbeing provide an inspiring setting for this edition’s theme: Toward a New Sustainable and Peaceful Alliance Between Humanity and Technology.
This theme invites us to reflect on how cognitive ergonomics and design-oriented disciplines can support more responsible, inclusive, and harmonious relationships between people and technological systems, benefiting individuals, communities, and society at large.
ECCE 2026 welcomes original contributions that advance the fields of cognitive ergonomics and human–technology interaction, whether through theoretical innovation, methodological refinement, or practice-based research.

Call For Papers
ECCE 2026 welcomes original contributions that advance the field of cognitive ergonomics, whether through theoretical innovation, methodological development, or practical application.
The conference invites high-quality long papers, short papers, and work-in-progress submissions that present original research and practical insights. Contributions should meaningfully enhance understanding and practice in cognitive ergonomics and human–media interaction, interpreted in its broadest sense.
Research papers will appear in the Proceedings of ECCE 2026, which will be published in the ACM Digital Library. Eventual multimedia materials will be published as source material in the ACM Digital Library. A list of proceedings can be found at this link.
Call for Early Career Researchers
The European Association for Cognitive Ergonomics (EACE), sponsors of the ECCE conferences, have an exciting new initiative, specifically targeted at Early Career Researchers (ECR). We would like to encourage younger CE researchers to become much more involved in the future of EACE and ECCE.
You can influence developments and directions and be part of a new, supportive and vibrant cohort of like-minded researchers. EACE will provide financial assistance; it is intended that the conference fee for participating ECRs will be fixed at half-price of the early-registration cost. You will also be able to present your own work if a paper submission is accepted. Those eligible should have a recently awarded doctorate – within the last 5 years – and may come from academia, industry, consultancy or research institutions.
Designathon
We invite designers, developers, researchers, and creative minds to take part in a Designathon dedicated to games that drive positive change. The challenge is to imagine and prototype games that can make a difference for society, the environment, and individual well-being.
Over an intensive and collaborative experience, participants will work in multidisciplinary teams to explore how game design can foster social inclusion, environmental awareness, and personal growth.
The call is: Play with purpose, design for change.
Information and procedures for the Designathon are now available.
